Before ATE 2019 I was fortunate to travel on a pre famil to the stunning Esperance. Below is a day to day breakdown of the trip:
Day 1- We departed Perth early in the morning for the short 1.5-hour REX flight to Esperance.
The plane is not big, and luggage is restricted but that did not hamper us. On arrival we were met by Jason from Xplore Eyre who was our driver over the coming 3 days. First, we checked into our accommodation, the Best Western Hospitality Inn Esperance. A simple and clean hotel with a great location in central Esperance. After checking in we were collected from the hotel by Mark, the owner of Esperance Eco Discovery Tours for a half day experience to Cape Le Grand National Park. What a fantastic Tour and recommend when in Esperance joining Mark for one of his tours. The tour included over 50km of 4WD beach driving along Le Grand Beach to the world-class beach of Lucky Bay and the chance to meet the Beach Kangaroos for lunch!
After an incredible picnic lunch, we returned along Le Grand Beach before finishing with the stunning 46 metre rock climb in the vehicle. Such a great half day and Lucky Bay is so spectacular.
To end the day, we had dinner at Taylor Street Quarters, a fantastic restaurant overlooking the bay.
Day 2 - This morning we joined Esperance Island Cruises for a half day wildlife cruise.
It was a great chance to see what Esperance offers from another perspective. The cruise was rough, but this was to be expected due to the strong swells coming in from the open ocean. We did not get to see too much wildlife but a pleasant morning all the same.
In the afternoon we joined Goldfields Air Services for a scenic flight to Lake Hillier. It was interesting to see Pink Lake (which is located on the mainland near Esperance) is not actually pink anymore. Lake Hillier which is located 45-minute flight from Esperance amongst the archipelago is pink and is STUNNING! The scenic flight took 1.5 hours in total in small light aircraft. The pilot was amazing with lots of interesting facts as we flew along the coastline, over Lucky Bay to Lake Hillier. Highly recommend this activity and to see the contrast in colours was beautiful.
Dinner was had at another local restaurant called the Loose Goose Bar and Restaurant which offered fine dining in the town. Very good also.
Day 3 - We woke early to catch our flight back to Perth.
Overall Esperance was amazing. The accommodation was a basic 3* but ok. The Eco Discovery tour and the flight to Lake Hillier are options we can recommend our FIT clients.
